THE FONDA, Los Angeles - Weyes Blood performed at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood on Thursday night in support of her latest album release Titanic Rising on Sub Pop Records. The "Something to Believe" Tour kicked off in San Diego on Wednesday and spans over 30 stops including a run in Europe this fall. Weyes Blood will pause the tour in September for a series of eight shows supporting singer Kacey Musgraves on the "Oh What A World" Tour.
Natalie Mering's voice echoed throughout the Fonda Theatre blending classic folk-rock of the 60 and 70s with the modern millennial anxieties of love and fear. She has a unique way of introducing young fans to the nostalgic piano and guitar ballads of her parent's generation while incorporating contemporary pop sensibilities. Dressed in an all-white suit and white boots, psychedelic film abstracts were projected on to her as she performed as well as on the screen behind her. The audience sang along to fan-favorite "Everyday" with a loud "then again." The look and feel of her live concert is timeless and she is in complete control. Her bright and airy vocals are refined, cutting through her whole band with precision and at the same time be very soothing to the listener. What's equally as impressive is that Mering sounds like herself. She sounds like the singer she set out to be and shares an optimistic message even through doom.
